Memo to Mark Cooper. We are naming her Get Aweigh. Our reason for the purchase was based on our regular comment to each other that "We need to find some way to get away." Seemed like a natural and is probably not new but it sure fits for us. John Powell

Excellent

Great name. Good luck with your commitment to one another- and to your boat. I moved from a Hunter 170 to a 240 for the same reason: a commitment to my wife and spending quality time with her.

Similar to ours

We have a Legend 37 and named her "AKERS AWAY" (see our surname) under the same premise as your's. This is our second boat with that name.

Names, voodoo, bad kharma, et. al.

What's the current feeling on renaming boats. I purchased a 87 H23 last summer and although it has an "acceptable name" ---Dad's Dream ---, I have considered renaming her. Everyone I talked to last summer said it was bad kharma to rename a boat. I'm not normally overly superstitious. Just wondering what most people do when they purhase a used boat.

Denaming link

http://www.48north.com/aug97/denaming.htm This is a link to denaming and renaming your vessel. It is also a good local read for Northwest sailors

Denaming Link Part2

I was just going to give the same link to boat denaming. Also, if you read the article, there's a nice ceremony for naming the boat.
