How do you name your dinghy/tender? I believe most if not all would name it after the main boat. So should we use T/T <boat name>? What does T/T stands for? :)

In fact I wouldn't name it after the boat if I was cruising. I would find some other name related to my boats name. I don't want to be obvious to thieves on shore that "insert boat name here'" is ashore & not on the boat....

Would the average thief be clever enough to know that when Shout is at the docks Whisper is unoccupied?

We don't have the name printed on our dinghy. We just refer to it as "Baby Cat", cuz our sailboat's names Stray Cat.

This is a fun thread. Our last six or seven boats were all named "Trumpeter" after the swans that winter here coming from Russia--beautiful birds. Besides I can just say quietly "I have a swan." But our hard dinghy (Minto) is named "Cygnet" and our Avon inflatable is called, "Ugly Duckling."

Fun thread, but like Saillife. I would be very careful what I called my dingy. In the pass we called our dingy 'Baby Java' but since cruising in the Bahamas we have removed the name. Giving no one an excuse to board our boat while we are away.

T/T stands for "Tender To (name of boat)" The designation is most properly used for lifeboats which only will see the water in trials and emergencies. Some try to use the T/T designation thinking that they can avoid registration fees for the dink but then run into the awkward situation of having to explain what is their emergency to the marine patrol.

Our boat is the Eagle (it came with the name, we didn't pick it, but it's grown on us) and our dink is Eaglet.

My first boat was Millennium. My current one is Millennium-2, I gues I should name my dinghy MIL-2 or something to that effect ... :) Ok I won't insert T/T to it. Where I cruise its pretty obvious where the tender came from. There isn't that many sailing boats out there. Thanks. :) :) :D

You could choose the name "Falcon" for the dink ala a certain si-fi movie...
