Scott,

BTW, what is going on in those first two images? Sure looks nasty.
We had about a year of unusual weather a little while ago.

First came Hurricane Irene at the end of August, 2012. It came thru on the evening of my nephew's wedding, knocking out power for several days at some locations. Irene was mostly rain but the wind wasn't so much by us. The photos are the day after with the residual winds from the west at about 30. Then we had the October snow storm in 2012 which left up to 18-inches in our part of the state and more power outages with trees down (heavy with leaves). Finally, Hurricane Sandy came thru notoriously for Halloween, 2013. My last photo shows the prep for Sandy. We had little rain but winds up to 75 even in our area, with a lot of down trees everywhere (firewood is plentiful). I finally got a generator before that power outage, which was pretty much the whole state for about a week. You wouldn't believe the lines at gas stations throughout NJ for the next week. Delivery was interrupted, gas stations had no power or were out of gas, people waited in lines for hours. I was lucky to have enough for the generator and my car until relief finally came to our area after about 3 or 4 days. Some of our neighbors had no power for almost 3 weeks, because it took so long to catch up.

It's been pretty quite since then ...

Scott,

May it stay quiet for you guys. Your area sure has taken a beating the last couple years.

Overall, I guess we've been lucky here by comparison. Suffered through the whole polar vortex thing last winter and some spring flooding. Then we had a short, but beautiful summer. Followed by the great Halloween Day storm with 45-60 knot NE winds and up to 23 ft waves that ripped up parts of the lakefront bike path and flooded Lake Shore Drive. It also sank the Halloween barge at Navy Pier and some zombies floated away. The Coast Guard rescued a few of them. Zombies can apparently be a marine navigation hazard.

Umm....I think we've just sidetracked this thread a bit.
