Name Change

I've finally gotten around to beginning the task of changing Procrastinator's name. It wilkl probably be her fourth or fifth rename. She will be launched in the St. Croix River (MN-USA) as ZAMA. Any advice on appropriate rites or rituals? Zama is Mayan and translates to: 'the rising sun.'

Hi to everyone,

I\'m in the mist of re-assembly my combi boy oh boy that\' a job!

Does anybody has a measure or any other way to make sure that the big piece of the combi is well placed at the neutral position? I hope you understand what I mean...The piece with groove that goes in and out to move the tube...

Thank you!

Marie

John Vigor gives detailed instructions for renaming a boat. Check his blog spot - lots of stuff - and of course his books are superb.

Sounds like a great way to rename a boat but isn't here something about having to run aground first? WaltTo: AlbinVega@yahoogrou ps.com

Marie,
Have you checked out the Yahoo Vega site files section? There's a document there called "Combi Instructions".
Here is a direct link: http://tinyurl.com/cjynck
but you need to be logged into your Yahoo account to get there ... I think!
Hope this helps,
Peter

Hi Peter ans Clint,

Yes, I know, I have those instructions thanks God! But that's probably due to my lack of knowledge in english, I'm not sure that I understand it very well for that part...

I will reread it one more time!

Thank you!

Marie, I have to re-assemble my combi soon. I disconnected it from the remove the engine which I rebuilt. Why did you remove your combi? Did you take it right out of the boat? What instructions did you follow? Can you describe your problem in more detail or post some photos? If you are simply having trouble synchronizing the throttle to the propeller, did you know that you can use a separate controls for the throttle?

I wanted to take my combi apart and remove it from the boat in order to replace the seals inside it, and to replace the stern bearing, but I can't get it apart. I followed the instructions on the Vega archive. Everything went fine until I got to the part that said something like "pound on the end of the shaft with fulsome blows etc" This didn't work. So I am going to reconnect it for now, until I find another way to disassemble the unit, or run into a combi expert who can help me. Did you successfully take your combi apart? Trevor

Hi Trevor,

I've followed the previous owner instructions and I have to say that take it apart was relatively easy. I've removed it from the boat because water was flowing and I wanted to change all the bearing and gasket.

My question is that the piece number 27-1 in Steve instructions needs to be put at the right groove at neutral position in the number 15-1 and I'm not sure wich one it is but may be there is a way to ensure that it is at the right position...if someone could explain that step like he would do it to a 5 years old girl, that would help me ;-)

If I understand well where you are stuck, I've done it but getting little knockijng with a small hamer on part 10-1 after having removed the big nuts...not sure it helps but not sure where you are stuck eather...

Where are you located?

27-1 and 18-1 is not a problem, it is more 27-1 in the casing...you can put it at different depth in 15-1

Marie, when I took mine apart, I recall that that 27-1 sleeve slid back and forth. Doesn\'t it control the position of the prop blades? Is your propeller attached? If so, and the shifter arm 31-1 is set at neutral, and your prop is in the neutral position, then 27-1 is correctly positioned. You may have to go by trial and error. It is not hard to take it apart and remove 31-1 and 28-1 a few times until it lines up properly. Trevor

PS What did you do to your combi? Did you rebuild it with Steve\'s kit?

Hi Trevor,

I\'ve followed the previous owner instructions and I have to say that take it apart was relatively easy. I\'ve removed it from the boat because water was flowing and I wanted to change all the bearing and gasket.

My question is that the piece number 27-1 in Steve instructions needs to be put at the right groove at neutral position in the number 15-1 and I\'m not sure wich one it is but may be there is a way to ensure that it is at the right position...if someone could explain that step like he would do it to a 5 years old girl, that would help me ;-)

If I understand well where you are stuck, I\'ve done it but getting little knockijng with a small hamer on part 10-1 after having removed the big nuts...not sure it helps but not sure where you are stuck eather...

Where are you located?

Marie, I have to re-assemble my combi soon. I disconnected it from the remove the engine which I rebuilt. Why did you remove your combi? Did you take it right out of the boat? What instructions did you follow? Can you describe your problem in more detail or post some photos? If you are simply having trouble synchronizing the throttle to the propeller, did you know that you can use a separate controls for the throttle?

I wanted to take my combi apart and remove it from the boat in order to replace the seals inside it, and to replace the stern bearing, but I can\'t get it apart. I followed the instructions on the Vega archive. Everything went fine until I got to the part that said something like "pound on the end of the shaft with fulsome blows etc" This didn\'t work. So I am going to reconnect it for now, until I find another way to disassemble the unit, or run into a combi expert who can help me. Did you successfully take your combi apart? Trevor

Hi Trevor,

Yes that\'s what I will do, but I have to say that the least I can do twice or three time, the happier I\'m because I\'ve done a lot several time already! and no, the propeller is not attached yet...

Yes, I\'m using Steve\'s Kit replacing everything myself except the bearing that I brought to a machine shop to be sure that it is well done.

Hi Trevor,

27-1 and 18-1 is not a problem, it is more 27-1 in the casing...you can put it at different depth in 15-1

Hi.:
I don't know if I'm helping you... but I used to have the 021 Albin (gasoline) engine with the variable pitch prop.
I think my prop and the connections were about the same. It's not too difficult to get the prop into the correct position. (don't forget, the threat on the sleeve is left!!!)
Put the prop together, make sure the prop turns foreward and aft when you pull on the shaft. Put the shaft + sleeve forward to the engine. There should be a lever with the neutral setting. Somebody on the outside (your arms aren't that long) sets the prop at the neutral position, and you (inside the boat) connects the shaft to the engine.(also in the neutral setting) You'll be surprised, once you've done it it's easier every time!
