This actually happened to some friends of mine at the marina. They were cruising up in the North Channel when they came upon a naked man standing on a rock, waving his arms wildly. After they went over to investigate, this is the story they got. He was out cruising in his power boat with his wife when they experienced engine trouble. Another boater noticed their distress and gave them a tow. His wife boarded the towboat and went to sleep while he stayed on the disabled boat. At some point his dinghy broke lose and he jumped in after it, thinking that the tow boat would see him. They didn't. His wife woke up and tried to radio to the disabled vessel, and recieving no response, assumed that her husband was napping. Meanwhile, the dingy blows farther and farther away from the guy, and he realizes that he's in trouble, so he removes his jeans which are weighing him down in the water. He swims to the nearest rock (of which there are no shortage of in the North Channel) and waves his arms wildly, where my friends discovered him. (He did say that a lot of boaters passed him by as he stood on the rock waving). Meanwhile, the tow boat arrives in port and his wife discovers that he's not aboard, and goes hysterical until the authorities notify her that he's OK. I think we could have a nominee for the Darwin awards.
