For anyone visiting Mystic:
Survey taken with dinghy and sounding line showing approximate 6 ft MLW lines of anchorage above Mystic Seaport. I had 9 feet anchored where indicated and buoy 53 was at green dot as indicated by my GPS.
This is a rough survey and should be used with caution but indicates that charted shoal area has been washed deeper. Anchoring clear of channel as directed by sign is impossible for most sailboats but a two anchor moor will leave room for boats to pass. Locals I spoke to don't know if piles still exist but haven't heard of anyone hitting them.
Seven day limit is reported to be unenforced. A local anchors here frequently and told me with some annoyance that I was in "his" spot. I didn't move. He said he was friends with the harbormaster and the one who makes sure that boats are moved after seven days. Other locals who know him laughed at this account. I do take it to mean though that my position shown is not considered "in the channel".
