Hola, I have a 1981 37' cutter. Water has appeared on the sole in the galley and is warping the sole. It is located more in the corner where the small piece of sole angles up but the moisture has extended up to the area of the sink, basicaly the complete galley and the sole squishes when you walk on it. I know it isn't sea water. The only time the fresh water pump cycles is when I turn on the water so I don't suspect a fresh water leak. The sink drain doesnt leak either. While on the docks this past weekend I heard of another cherubini with the same problem but they were not available. Has anyone else experienced this? I am baffeled. Thank you. Check icebox drain.

Is there any ice or water in the icebox? Many of us have plugged the icebox drain and simply sponge it out from time to time. Tracing any other source to that point is really hard. You might try spilling a little baby powder behind the area where the drawers pull out. Then see if you see tracks in the powder. Also the area behind the panel and f/g under the stove is a big void. Many have made that teak into a door with a piano hinge and then put a hatch in the f/g. Lots of storage and another way to see if any water is coming down the inside under the stove. Let us know when you find the source.

Ice Box Drain?

How 'bout your ice box drain? I believe the original design had a copper pipe flanged out and kind of stuck in the base of the ice box. When the ice melted you would get some leakage right at that same point in the galley sole you describe. If you still have the stock ice chest, you might want to investigate where that drain terminates. Another mystery was the termination of that drain. It's tough to get to. It may be draining to the wrong place or it may not have a good seal where that flange meets the base of the ice box. ...Or this may have nothing at all to do with your leak. In any case, you may have a pocket of water filled up in one of those inaccessible bilge areas under the sole. Perhaps that pocket has a drain hole that is clogged. That's my best guess.

From engine compartment?

When I bought Rainbow Chaser I had a leak that showed up just like yours. It came from the leaky muffler and made it's way to the galley floor just as you describe. If you're sure it's not saltwater, maybe rainwater, or water from washing the boat is leaking into the starboard side of the engine compartment and making it's way there.

I had forgotten.

I had water on the galley sole from the same location Gene mentioned, from around the muffler. But it was from draining the water heater in the Fall. I have since added a hose into the bilge. Water on that muffler platform will end up where you are seeing it.

This may be it!

I had the same problem. drove me nuts for a while untill i happened to be cleaning out the bilge area and the pump came on. the bilge pump hose runs up thru the bunk and exits the hull behind the shelves on the forward part of the gally the plastic thru hull dried up and cracked under the hose. could not see it. so when the pump came on the water ran down the hull side and came out on the floor in front of the stove. trashed my floor too! easy fix. remove the teak panels in the forward cornor of the locker behind the stove and you will find the fittings. good luck. lets us know what you find.

great Ideas

Thank You all for the wonderful input. I checked the hoses in the bilge and from the H/W heater. I kinda felt like the problem may be coming from a hose in the stove area. The problem was worse at some times and I am leaning towards the Bilge discharge, At one point I was blaming the cold machine for condensation discharge(would have had to be a lot)because the amount of water was not consistant. I will let you all know what I find. What a great forum and good bunch of people, it makes me proud to own a Hunter.. Richard

Check the deck drain hose also

I had the same problem and it turned out to be the deck drain hose behind the teak panel in the starboard locker over the stove. The hose had small holes in it that I assumed came from someone poking a screwdriver down the drain to unblock it. Richard 1979 H37C Rhapsodie
