Mystery Water Leak

Sailing our1 '94 Hunter 26 in New York's Lake Sacandaga, we have had several unexplained "leak days" that filled the under-seat storage compartments in the cabin to a 4" depth, but left the galley storage compartment dry, and only a trace of water under the head sink. The V-berth compartment was also dry. There is no obvious hull damage, and the water is NOT coming from the ballast tank. Anybody solved similar problems?

Had rain lately?

Richard, I had a problem like that with our 1998 260, which is very similar in design to your '94 26. After periods of rain we'd find water under the seats but relatively dry V-berth, aft-berth and other compartments. I found that when I really cranked down on the latches of our Pompanette "Grey" ports above the stove and head sink the water was less likely to show up. I did this because we had one night when we slept on the boat during a storm and we saw water dripping from the port above the stove. Water ran forward along the hull, dripped down to the seats (soaking part of the cushions) and into the compartment under the seats. I finally replaced the lenses of the ports this summer (the originals were cracked in spots and very hazed besides being leaky) and the problem seemed to go away. Before you go through the expense you might have someone with a garden hose shower the port while you are snug inside... Just a thought. Hope this helps! Mike

Another idea

I have a 260, under and thru the table is the compression post, my leak was the interface between the post and the pipe that holds it in place. Between this interface when a wave the water level would get above this interface water would drip (splash) inboard and lay on top of the balist tank then would spill over to the outboard lockers. what I did was to use take off the wood covering under the table and fill this spave with silicone calk, this fixed my problem. Just my idea and 2 cents
