I have no idea... I've only had traditional stuffing boxes before this boat. How to do maintenance????

Check the archives here as you want to understand these things fully as to what is required. I understand they give good service but you do NOT want to neglect them. The results can be most unpleasant :eek:.

Sloppy wiring around the engine has been updated, now looking at the stuffing box. It leaked more than I'd like (dripping every 2-3 seconds) during the 5hr motor up to pull her out. She's been on the hard for 7 months for a refit and I'm going through everything...

You have the original style PSS seal, without the small tube that allows air to escape from inside bellows. If air displaces the sea water in the bellows the ceramic plates will overheat. This can lead to a build up of deposits on the plates and a dripping seal. It's easy to purge the air, just pull back on the leading edge of the bellows and let the sea water push the air out. A necessary
step when coming off the hard.

You could try what I did to repair leaking ceramic plates. I took a piece of wet/dry very fine grit sandpaper, folded it over, and placed it between the plates with the prop turning. Hey, don't laugh, it worked..... no more drips.
