I recently was sailing my O'day 25 with some friends and wanting to test the boat was consistently heeling the boat from 25-30 degrees. Everything was going well until my girlfriend discovered that we had about three inches of water in the cabin. The boat had been in the water for about a week with no signs of taking on water, and as soon as we reduced our angle of heel to a reasonable level and I finished bailing out all of the water the leak stopped. I therefore decided that the leak must be between around the seam between the deck and the hull. If anyone has any insight as to the source of the leak and the solution I would be greatly appreciative.

Thru hulls
there are thru hull fittings for draining the head sink and sometimes also (depending on the year the boat was made) for the galley sink and/or the cockpit icebox. Burying the rail during sailing will put those fittings under water. Check to make sure that they are not the source of your problem. Much easier to fix than a leaky deck/hull joint.

deck joint leaks
I had water coming in through the deck/hull joint on my 78 O25. I had the joint re-caulked. Remove rub rail, remove all screws joining deck to hull, dig out all the old dry caulk, repack with polysulphide, new screws and new rubrail. A lot of work but not brain surgery.

Mike, Thanks for the reply I'm hoping that it's the fittings. What method would you use to check these fittings? If it is the fittings how have you fixed the leaks?

Ed, Thanks for the info. How much water resulted from the leaks that you had? I estimate that I took on about 50 gallons. This might help me narrow down the cause.

If you have a centerbord mdel check the hose that the line you raise and lower it with is still intact and also all your thru hulls are closed.
