Mystery compartment

Hello, My 1979 30' O'Day has a compartment at the starboard rear corner of the cockpit. This compartment has a lid, but what ever was on the front of the compartment is gone. there are two metal brackets that may of held a wooden panel. Can anyone tell me what should be there and what this compartment is for.

there was a piece of plywood there...it is just a storage area for dock lines etc

The 1979 O'day 30 listed with a cockpit wet locker in addition to the regular cockpit locker (seat lid). Is that perhaps what you are looking at? Any pictures would help.

I had an O'Day 34. I used that locker for a propane tank

Looks like "Noanker" knows best, here is a quote from the 1978 O'DAY Brochure.
"Another wet locker in the cockpit is a handy place to store dock lines, blocks and winch handles"

I bought a 83 O'day 30. I am in Windsor. Do you have any soft spots up top?
I just rebuilt the tranny and replaced the damaged rub rail. I had a Bimini top installed yesterday. I'm starting to win, I think!

I had some soft spots on the side decks and the cabin top under the mast
