this should help guide your licensing and registration issues. The good advice you have received includes the need to consider auxiliary power and I suspect a 9.9 hp outboard will only get you in trouble in a moderate breeze, therefore requiring a license and boat operator card. Looks like a great vessel for the lakes, hope you enjoy her and be safe.

Wouldn't it be nice if all the English speaking countries actually spoke the same language and used the same terminology, not to mention spelling?

The Canadian Licence seems to be roughly equivalent to a state registration in the US.

The Canadian registration appears to be equivalent to the US Coast Guard Documentation.

While you may not be required to get a Canadian Licence, if you plan to cross the border you may be asked for legal documentation that you own the boat. When I cross into Canada (sadly, it looks unlikely this year :(), the first 2 questions Canadian CBP asks is: What is your boat's registration number? And, where are you currently located?

Well an update is it’s not concrete I’m just a novice and it was some sort of sealer that was applied to it that is grey and it chipped off a bit looking like concrete but it’s definitely steel, presumably lead? We’re starting to think it might even be a Cal possibly.

Steel and lead are very different metals. If a magnet sticks to it, it is steel. It is probably lead, as lead is denser and heavier and often used in keels.

It is not a Cal. Bill Lapworth who was the chief designer was an innovator in the use of fin keels. Your boat is a full keeled boat.

The drawing says it's a Frances 26 by Chuck Paine. Could it be that simple?

Looked at the web, found the Frances 26 by Chuck Paine. That's the drawing, but it's not your boat! The Frances 26 is a canoe hull, a double ender with no transom. The mystery continues.

I think you have done your due diligence and you have earned the right to call it whatever you want.
A full keeled lead ballasted boat is going to be stiff and strong.

My vote would be a "Valkyries 25":pimp:

Welcome aboard. At first glance I want to say a 26' Pearson. But that is just a SWAG.

Stand at the stern of the boat with the transom facing you. There should be a HIN (Hull Identification Number) located in the upper right side of the transom (outboard side). If you can find it, it will be useful in IDing the boat.
Not a Pearson 26. It does bear some semblance to a Rhode's design, but I am thinking it is not. I'm pretty good with identifying these old boats, but this one has me stumped.

Well thank you to everyone who replied your opinions have been of utmost help and I am excited to announce that I have discovered the model of boat I possess. Ladies and gentlemen a Halcyon 27! Now if anyone would like to help out further I’m in the market for a 105 jib and 2-3 reef main ! Oh and also a rudder as mine has become warped and I fear no longer able to use. Among other things lol.

That's true inside the US too. When a redneck from Alabama and a businessman from Houston say they are loaded, ... it does not mean the same thing.

Wow so my wife noticed on the back of the boat the letters SYC which after a quick google search resulted in the Sarnia Yacht Club showing up so we contacted them and they were able to track down the last registered owners from 1974 and they delighted to hear from us. While they are far into retirement they were exuberant with the recent news that their first boat is also our first and that we’re refurbishing it to sail yet again. It’s not a halcyon27 or a diamond 27, or a contessa 26 like I previously thought. No... it is a Continental 25! Mystery actually solved.
