proper etiquette

The guy who is governor of Wisconsin, for starters. :D

The guys who moderate this forum are the nicest bunch of folks I've ever worked with. Even if I have been taken to task for asking some "questioners" to read a book before they asked away after a long thread which answered their questions already.

All I did was to forget to quote the Forum Guidelines.

The ribbing, as some have put it could sometimes intimidate newer persons to the forum because they don't understand the history a lot of you have. Which in turn could keep them from jumping in to either offer up a solution or request some insight. I have read some of the posts and reply's and I cringe at some of the sarcasim and would be hard pressed to ever post again for fear of my lack of knowledge will result in ridicule or I would bite back. Let me guess, "put your big boy pants on if your going to belly up to this bar"! Happy Easter Fellas!

Or, rather than getting caught up in someone elses personality issues you can just ignore them. The internet has bread more "tough guys" than ever existed before and the nice thing is with no effort at all they can be completely ignored.
We may not be able to escape the insane ramblings of close friends and family but we can avoid it here.
If I get worked up about what someone has posted I write up a scathing retort which would surely reduce the offender to a whimpering sack in the corner and rather than send it I go have a little walk around the yard, a coffee or whatever and by the time I re-engage I've decided that life is too short to act that way.
This place is informative and I appreciate the posters sharing their knowledge and experience, from the pros to the newbies, but when we come right down to it, it's really not important enough to get excited about.
Works for me.

Guys,

It looks as if this thread has run its course.

Keeping count so far of the opinions, I find most agree or somewhat agree. Some don't believe there are any problems, and others have their own thoughts. So from a reply standpoint, the thread took on a spirited life of its own, & that was what I was looking for.

My main emphasis in this thread was suggesting more thought be put into the original author's question/s, so the advice could be refined, direct & more inclusive. This would surely be most helpful to the newer sailors, and make their experience all the more enjoyable.

It was not my intent to use the problematic posting issues as the main point, I only wanted to touch on this. I also never mentioned the word "rules", I merely listed suggestions. This was my approach when starting or posting threads. Being or seeking helpful resources is why we're here in the first place. I know it may have sounded as a rule thing, but writing procedures for years, I guess it carried over somewhat.

This has turned into a great thread with many opinions expressed. This thread was not a "boat related" question, but rather an issue & comment thread.

It's been a very informative thread guys, Thanks....
