The Rubbermaid containers are the best I have found. As Ross stated, keeps things dry. I have tried other brands, some from the dollar store, and after a few days sugar in them is like a brick.
The only thing that will make sugar liquefy is water. If you keep the moisture out the sugar stays dry. I use a quart mason jar at home but only for convenience because it only holds half a bag and the balance stays in the bag it came home in.Your boat must be very damp inside. What form of ventilation do you have?
I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING TO YOUR SUGAR BUT IT IS NOT EVAPORATING!!!! Here is a simple experiment .Put some sugar in a skillet and put it on the stove. High Heat. The stuff will burn before it evaporate!!! Basic chemistry. They make sugar by boiling sugar cane juice to remove the water...well there is a little more to modern sugar making but that is the basic ideal. Same thing for making maple syrup.
We have had a box of sugar cubes on our boat for over a year. NO syrup. Sure sugar can absorb water enough to make it hard. But I can't imagine sugar absorbing enough water from the air to liquify!!!! Maybe pixies and elves are at work!!!!
I keep filling the ice locker with beer cans and it seems like they just keep on evaporating. No matter how many I put in there, and then every few days... I'll be damned if they aren't all missing. Some thangs is just mysterious like.
Ross, Us hillbillys in Arkansaw don't have any evaporation problems with sugar, I quit using sugar in my coffee and started using baileys only, works great.Tim WelshHunter 34S/V Cabo WaboLake Ouachita, ArkansasBeat your competition, Run'em Aground!!!!
A good hillbilly doesn't store sugar a'tall cause his...
sugar is converted to crystal clear, fire blow'n face twist'n sugar whiskey. Now that stuff will evaporate if you don't suck it down fast enough 'sept when Tim watches it. Then for some reason it just vanishes.Ray
Well as a purebread person of Appallation decent (eastern hillbilly clan BTW), I does like all you fancy city folk do and keeps my sugar in a sealed container. As for sugar vaporatin (wow, 4 sylables, my brain is startin to smoke) I never seen such a thing and don't think I ever will. I suspect critters or kids is a gettin inta the sugar kitty while yous a lookin taother way.I does have a problem with ta beers and moonshine vaporatin but I thinks I know whats a going on there. I thought for along time that them big spiders that Calif.Ted talked about was in my magination but since he is seein them way out west I can safely say that we eastern claners gots them too. Theys thursty little suckers.
Patrick , call an exterminator ! You have a really BIG

Dam that hillbilly talkin is betterin pirate talkin. The brandy on my boat keepsa disappearing. But it only doesit when I am there. No mystery though. my wine didn't disappear last weekend. NO CORKSCREW!!!!! Well I assume it is on the boat but it is hiding where I haven't looked yet. If I was a pirate I'd just bite the top off. keep it coming!!!!!
