Out on San Francisco Bay today. A somewhat distinctive new boat has appeared: l’Hydroptère DCNS. I imagine she's here as part of the build-up excitement to the America's cup.

Had my camera. We were maybe one mile away. 10X Zoom got me "closer". The best shot is attached below.

Googling it after getting home: -- By gosh the thing is the fastest sailboat in the world! http://www.ship-technology.com/projects/lhydroptre-dcns-hydrofoil-sailboat/

Lots and lots of money in that boat. But looking at my picture, also struck me that I captured several more $100's of millions of dollars in the image. The homes on the first hill behind: Location Belvedere, CA. These modest residences are listed for as much as $35 million. The large house to left of the l’Hydroptère with the red tile roof is owned (or maybe until recently owned because it was on the market several years ago) by a Tom Perkins, who happens to be the owner of the largest sailboat in the World, the Maltese Falcon. This link includes images of the Falcon, the house and other stuff Perkins. https://www.google.com/search?q=tom...kHaPuiQKhsoHADQ&ved=0CEMQsAQ&biw=1009&bih=610

If only we had been about one mile further into the bay rather than near the GG Bridge about 10 minutes later. The l’Hydroptère's jib went up soon after I took the picture. The boat then covered the three-four mile distance from Sausalito past Alcatraz to San Francisco in a flash. Rooster tail was shooting up behind it. The high powered chase boat looked to be flat out trying to keep out.

All this wealth is starkly contrasted by the quasi-homeless living conditions of Sausalito's anchor-outs. The anchor-out fleet is located just out of my photo's frame to the left. Less than a mile from and in plain view of those Belvedere estates. Here's a link describing the anchor-out lifestyle. http://www.bohemian.com/gyrobase/the-anchor-outs/Content?oid=2306241&mode=print
