Main,
Looking at the fog in your pic, makes me think of how my friends laugh at me as I like to sail in the soup. Twice a year, Spring & Fall the sea fog can show up in minutes. Sometimes it's hard to see the bowsprit. But, it does sharpen your senses and invigorating to the more daring of us.
I've had this fascination ever since I was a kid. I dunno, I think at first it was the stealth factor, and the maybe the silence of something ghostly within the visuals & sounds. But it's always been there. As a kid, I always thought it was TOO cool.
The good part is that sailing out of JP Florida, is not a working type harbor really, A couple of rentals, fuel docks & a gambling ship or two.
That & pleasure/charter/fishing boats mostly, with an occasional barge.
Just a very short channel to clear Gulf water. The inside pass itself is small.
When I do take folks out, they always come back with a fog appreciation of sights-n-sounds.
First thing I give my guests are, life jackets (to the more timid) & my trusty old fog horn. It's fun to have them run thru & practice the signals. Best of all the horn is not battery powered & always works. Having my guests trade signals with the gambling boats & larger vessels adds to their excitement & enthusiasm.
Also as the top water calms, I have people sit quietly at the bow (legs dangling under the lifelines)to watch for sea life. It's surprising how much you see as you stealth up to dolphins, turtles, pelagics, rays etc.
Anyway pal , your pic made me write this.
Here's a older shot of the pass I come into before I redid the deck......
