I did notice that the replacement pump, (original part no longer made) has the discharge angled north instead of east like the current pump discharge. I’m wondering if that can be changed and if not,

I added a switch for the pump right at the pump so I can turn it on and off from that location. I also made sure to use a fitting that was translucent so I can see when the tank is actually empty.

Another vote for a monitor system. If you have a plastic tank it is even easier to install than my metal setup. Indicator is just above the toilet.

I have a tank level monitor for every tank on the boat next to my electrical panel at the nav station. Water tanks and holding tanks indicator

As nasty as that job is you should feel fortunate your macerater is not mounted directly to the tank.

Good news! I took the inlet end off (the 4 8mm bolts) and was able to change the discharge outlet to east from north.

You can rotate that 'out' port to any of four directions..

Try to pump out tank and if possible run clean water through it if your old pump is running. Close sea cock. I first gloved up and then removed the mounting bolts and slid a large contractors plastic bag under the pump to try to catch any leakage or spillage, planning on sliding the removed pump into the bag. Used a hair dryer to soften hoses for removal after clamps were loosened. Have a baggy with large with thick rubber band to temporarily put on hoses to stop gases and remaining liquid and remove pump. Clean area and hoses one at a time and put in new pump, clamp down, remount and rewire.
All in all a nasty job but mine could have gone much worse.

Job competed! As said by one of you, not much leakage. I also had to remove the 4 screws that held the back plate on to get the macerater out ( another one of you), then worked on getting it unscrewed. It was NOT glued, only joint compound but took two of us to hold the white valve while the other used pliers to unscrew the piece. All back together. Ops check good, ok for service!
