After considerable personal effort and calls to customer support aids who could not speak the English language, I finally got our web site up and running. It's Hunter oriented with a few personal items included. I'm open to constructive criticism. Thanks, John Richard s/v Jack's Place

Good looking site

I would like to build a home site. How do you get started? I own a 460.

To Firman

Firman, Thanks for the response. The first thing you need to do is find a host for the site. A friend suggested I try www.aplus.net. Once you determine what you want to call it, you need to register. This cost me about $100 for a 5 year registration and other gizmos. You'll be surprised how many sites there are out there that already have the name you want. This why I had to put the Hunter410 on to my original choice. Then, I used Microsoft Front Page to do all the work. It's pretty easy, but time consuming. You need to be in the right frame of mind to sit behind the computer for hours while you revise and decide what you want. I had a lot of digital photos on the computer which made it managable. Then, when you are satisfied, it needs to be published and Front Page and aplus will walk you through. Once you get started, it becomes a major project, because you are always thinking of things you want to add or change. Good luck, John Richard

Nice site John - suggestion

Remove or use plain text for you email address. The web crawlers will find and start sending loads of spam. It happened on my site and I had to change my email address. Was getting several hundred a day. Then again if you like spam do nothing ;D Try somethimg like.. email for john: jrichard012 at comcast dot net Jim S/V Java

Web Host info

John, that is a lot of information on one page. I bet those loading from telephone modems have to wait a few minutes for the photos to appear. Good start, nice images, and you are right, it takes a lot of work. You might visit my web site at http://www.lakeontariosailing.com to see how I have used FrontPage. I switched to a web host called www.ipower.com. The link is below. At $7.95 per month it is the best service and 800 MB of storage space. Check it out. Nice job John

But my stone-age dial-up connection took about ten minutes to load the front page and then gave up. None of the pictures below you and Sgt Tom :) came in. (x'd out)

Yep. Its slow.....

You need to reformat your pictures they are too big and slow. Also each of those paragraphs could be a link. Again less to download on each page. I guess you didn't ask for for advice...Umm...disregard all of the above. Markdb Schizophrenia is a terrible thing...No its not....YES it is, now stop typing....

Thanks for your comments

I sincerely appreciate your comments. This was a prototype page and I am completely self taught in this venture. I have already begun to construct a new page with links that will speed up loading. I knew that putting everything on one page was going to cause a band width problem. My next version should work better. My main headach was that my hit counter didn't work?? John, I've got it!!

Any problems you're having is because your site is SO POPULAR. It's been overwhelmed by the number of hits! ;)

New and Improved version has been added

Based upon your valued feedback, I did a revision of the original page with expanded information. I'm still working out some little bugs, but hope to get everything functioning tonight. It now is easier to navigate with multiple pages and will download faster. I forgot that not everyone on the planet has a cable modum. John Richard
