...they sent the cheaper model 90 instead of the Pro model that I ordered and got charged for. They're sending the right one out right away, even before receiving this one back from me. Very nice service from Sailnet. I did a quick measurement on my 95H23.5 while I had the one they sent. My upper shrouds are only about 360 lbs instead of 20% of 3000 to 3300 or 600 to 660 depending on whose breaking strength you believe. Talk about _way_ off! H23.5 "Timshel"

Borrowed my dockmates new Pro model the other day. Nice instrument but hard to justify the price. Like you I found the shrouds to hardly move the needle. And they were adjusted by the marina after the mast was stepped! I do not see the new Pro model on the Sailnet site(Related Link). The one I used would measure four wire sizes, 1/4" to 3/8". My situation is 1/4" shrouds and 9/32" stays.

Rick - Your first reading is consistent with the experience of most new guage owners...the tension was way low. Unless you do this stuff a lot, it's hard to go by feel. Sorry about it being the wrong model. Ron Mehringer H26 Hdyro-Therapy

Way off indeed
Going by the phrase "guitar string tight" used by the fellow at Hunter, I suspected I was nowhere near tight enough. I suspect that having tightened it up to spec once with a gauge, one maybe won't really need it again to get it at least "close". But for the US$52, it will be nice to have, even if to share "with my dockmates" as Ed has experienced. I don't fancy trying to get my cotter pins out while the boat is in the water, and since I have only a couple of weekends of sailing left I probably won't get a chance to tune it up until next season. To bad, it would be nice to do a before and after sail to experience the difference. Overnight I got 2 inches of snow on my lawn but it should be 70 degrees and sunny this weekend. But the end is near...

Ed - I clicked on the link and I see your point. It looks like you would have to order two different models to handle your shrouds and stays. However, I checked the loosnaples.com site and the SailNet listing is misleading. The PT-3 model in fact does go the range from 1/4 to 3/8. Unfortunately, it's $117! Mine are all 5/32", so the model PT-1 works for me at only $52.

It's sure looks odd that there is only a couple of dollars difference in the model 1 and 2, but model 3 is more than double!
