My Gps Stopped Working?

Hello I am back. I motored our 260 Hunter from Jax Florida back to West Palm Beach along the I.C.W. I utiilized the GPS throught the trip. It worked fine. I stored the boat on the trailer for about 4 months and just launched it.

I connected the GPSMap 168 Sounder (chartplotting receiver and depth-finder). It starts up and displays "searching for satelite", it finds the satelites and gives my position and then the screen goes blank with a vertical line.

Can someone help me.

I can think of 3 possible causes:

1) it could have bad wire connections or not enough ground.
2) the GPS is worn out and needs replacing
3) interfacing is causing problems.

I would disconnnect it from everything, take it down below and connect it directly to a + and - wire and turn on. If still same problem, buy a new GPS. If works correctly, then try interfacing it. If fails, then it's a problem with the depth finder interface. If not, then it has to be your + and/or - wires.

Sounds like what happened to my Garmin gps. Fortunately (or unfortunately) Ross had the same thing happen to his and he contacted Garmin. The cure that he posted was to disable WAAS on the unit. I tried that and I haven't had a problem since (thanks again Ross).
