So, Saturday afternoon on busy Middle River.We launch about 4:00 P.M., gonna sail close for a while. Some friends are launching and test running their just repaired Center Console Mako fishing boat, prepare for their annual fishing vacation in Ocean City , Md. We are all gonna meet up for dinner later.
Wife and I are criss crossing the river,having a blast. It is very windy today, river is choppy from wind and traffic. Getting some spray in the face occaisionally, no problem. On our third or fourth trip across , I spotted a jet ski sitting in the middle of the river, Dad has his son with him. Son is about 6,7, both are sitting there rocking in the traffic. We went ever,asked if they needed help,reply yes, we offered to tow them in. Annie drops sails as quicly as possible,we toss them a line, Dad has to go overboard to attach to his bow. We start towing with our mighty 4HP Yamaha out board.
My brother once told me jokingly that I need a dinghy, I had replied I would get a jet ski so it coul;d bring me home. I see now that dragging one of them around is not an optipon!.
As we chiug along , my wife made our victims smile for the camera, price to pay for the tow in . As we approached the shore, the guys buddies started to ciircle around like a swarm (cloud ?) of mosquitoes, they seemed highly amused he was being towed in by a sailboat. Asd we got into the shallows at the beach they are bases at, he hopped off to untie his ski, told me it was too knotted up, did I have pliers? I just gave him a knife, told him to cut it close, I wanted out of there now1.
By now, the boat is rocking and rolling so badly, the main halyard had flipped around to the front of the mast and had snagged up on the steaming light. The jib had managed to wrap itself around the bow pulpit. Therer was no way Annie could get these fixed safely. I could have, but she wasn`t having any part of trying to control the boat and motor in these conditions while I am up on deck! During all this , I got a reminder that I really do need to install the prop guard that arrived last week from SBO.com.
We motored back to the marina, provided a lot of entertainment to all while tying up in a slip. (Usually just go the the ramp and on the trailer and out). Our friends showed up, took us all around point to dinner at Riverwatch. Good end to the day.
