Hi I am about to purchase my first sailboat.I have a very limited budget and I found, after looking at many boats at many marinas,a 1979 25'Hunter with a fixed 3'11"keel a 15hp merc outboard which runs great,Dual batterys and charger,vhf,am/fm radio, outside wood needs some work, sink pump inop, very little water in the bilge, cabin cushions old/worn,needs a good cleaning, hatches seem in good shape, depth finder and knot meter not working, standing rigging seem to be good. Not sure about the sails yet but the owner said they were good.Been in the water for 3 years so it going to need some bottom paint.Owner has a diver clean each year.No trailer but not really needed. Is this a good one to learn on or maybe too big. Will be doing most of my sailing solo.$4200.00 asking.Sofar the best I have seen. Will welcome any advice, comments, etc. Lou

check sails

If the sails are original they are probably not "good" unless they have been on a shelf for 23 years.

Sounds like a good deal to me

It's a bit less than what I'm asking for my boat, but mine has a little more gear on it (and all my gear works). I would recommend a survey on the boat... If it needs to come out of the water for paint anyway, that's a good time to have the surveyor check out the bottom. The surveyor is also likely to find most of the 'little' problems aboard that will become bigger problems later. ...And as long as the boat's on the hard, you can check/replace the depth/knot sensors, too- and get everything working. Again, it sounds like a good deal! I'd definitely consider it. --Jon Bastien

My Hunter 25

I bought my H25 in Novemeber here in Panama City with no motor, no working lights, decent sails, and a VHF for $2k cash. I couldn't have asked for a better deal. We love the boat and it does sail great in St. Andrews Bay! Steve Hall S/V Helen Highwater
