My first boat and I'm a bit puzzled

I bought a Mac 25. Is it supposed to have Styrofoam stuffed in the forward lockers? Any suggestions on the possible reason? Is it really necessary?

floatation if it should capsize. most people remove all or part of it. I guess if you plan to sail open ocean you might want to keep it but otherwise....... nah. don't need it.

Welcome to the forum overkill. I too have a Mac 25. I see no reason to remove the foam blocks. I hope I never do anything to test them though lol.

Unless you need the storage space...keep it.

It may be dual purpose, an attempt to make the boat unsinkable and to support the v-berth. That large flat surface needs to be well supported or very thick. That big chuck of foam in the middle looks like was placed to support the v-berth.

Just replaced the bow eye on my Mac 25. There are dozens of small pieces of Styrofoam in that space .
I do hit open ocean and keep all of the Styrofoam in place. Hopefully I will never use it.
