At First Look . . .

My first sailboat, recently purchased, is a Hunter 22, model year 1983. I sail her with my daughter and son, 7 and 11 years old, respectively. Actually, once I motor out of the marina and anchorage, my daughter usually takes over the helm and I don't get it back until it's time for us to motor back to out slip. To say the least, we love her. She sails easily, handles great for a beginner and his kids and has plenty of room for the three of us. I first saw her nearly a year ago, when she wasn't yet for sale. After looking around for a year, I noticed on a board at the marina that she was now for sale and contacted the owner promptly. It didn't take long for me to make my decision, after looking at her hull and investigating a few other things about her. To make a long story short, I think that this boat was the best choice for the three of us to learn to sail. Hope you have as good experiences with yours. Dusty

Any More Info???

You didn't say whether you own a H25, what year, condition, etc. Are you new to sailing? Do you trailer? Ad nauseum..... Well, I can tell you that the H25 is a very solid, dependable little pocket cruiser, ideal for weekending at the lake. We have a "rule" - we sail 6, feed 4 and sleep 2. But if you have kids, there should be enough room for overnighting in some comfort. Sailing.... the H25 tends to have a lot of weather helm, which translates: You need to stay on top of sail trim for balancing the boat. Reef early. The electrical system hasn't yet given me any grief, but it looks like a nightmare. I will be re-wiring the boat next month, using a much simpler schematic. Many H25 owners in this forum have related experiences with compression of the cabin roof under the mast, due mostly to water infiltration. Lucky me, I haven't had that problem. But leakage is an issue at the toe rail / stanchion junctions. Also, a lot of comments about the H25's tendency to leak from the cockpit drain. Minor stuff, but maybe a major irritant. I love my H25, even though she's for sale (I need a LOT more headroom). Contact me if you need any help along the way! Fair Winds! Michael O'
