I just purchased "Highland Heather" and she has been sitting for a lllong time in the water. I have cleaned her up on the deck and inside. I am so impressed with how much room there is inside. I love the rails for going for and aft. I'm 6'4" and my 13" feet fit well on the rails. When we pop the top I can actually stand upright. So cool. I am the third owner of this 1984 hunter. The cockpit is huge. I would like any response on things that I should be looking out for. I am looking at replaceing all the sheets lines and halyards. So happy to have her!!! I'm going to have to haul her out this winter /spring. She is a shoal draft. Any input would be much appreciated.

If you're looking for things to do . . . have you checked the standing rigging? Are the sails in good shape? Have you had any sailing lessons?

Best of Luck!!

Can you give me an idea on rope or halyard thickness and length over all of the main sail. I know how to replace it I'm just not sure with what type line/rope/halyard I should use.

Well doen i recently purchased a 1994 23.5 and love it for all the same reasons you do , although i am only 5foot 6 ! the room is still welcome ... i beleve this site has an automatic sheet and halayard calculator.... see the store adverts on the right of the forum.

My 1993 Hunter 23.5 owners manual has a list of all the exact size and length of all halyard and sheet lines. Hope this helps.........love my "Serenity" for the same reason. Very sweet sail !!!

Craig, welcome to sailing. This site is a wealth of information. If you have any questions about sailing there's a forum here labeled Sail Trim that can help with any questions you might have.

Keep your bottom clean and your beer cold, good luck.

Here's some info on my 25.5 I just adopted a couple months ago and the PO had all the manuals and docs for everything on it.

H-25.5 Running Rigging

Topping lift 1/8 7x7 PVC Thimble to Thimble 27' 6"
Top Lift Tail 1/4" XLS Eye Splice 3'

Main Sheet 3/8 XLS B.B.E. 45'

Genoa Sheet 7/16 XLS B.B.E. 45'

Jiffy Reef 1/4 XLS 45'

Main Halyard 3/8" XLS B.E. to eye splice
Use F.G. 1034 75'

Jib Halyard 3/8" XLS B.E. to eye splice

Hope that helps.

If I get time I plan to scan the manual and find a place to post it here on this site.

Forgot to add that the manual shows the jib and main halyard cleating at the main mast so if you have them running to the cockpit you may need longer halyards.
