So my old cd player finally died, I happily replaced it with a new jensen unit, BUT the rumbling noises that I had attributed to the old unit being on its deathbead did not quit. Basically it seems like I'm picking up electrical noise from the cd drive in the unit. The radio works perfectly and if I plug my laptop into it (the cd player has auxillary rca inputs) the sound is perfect wether playing a file or cd. Also whenever the bilge pump, sump, fridge, ect comes on you hear it through the speakers. The cd player is connected vie rca cables to 4 100w amps, one for the 10" sub, one for the fwd speakers, one for the saloon speakers, and one for the cockpit speakers. All the wiring is fresh (recent total rewire) so all the connections, ect are clean. Any ideas? I thought mabye a bad ground and disconnected the neg wire at the unit and ran a jumper directly to the batt, engine, ect with the same results every time. HELP!

Try unhooking things one at a time

and using alternate sources of input - like you did with the laptop. You can try rerouting wiring too. Move player to a new location. Try turning things on and off and different power wiring. Read the archives about filters, toroids or ferrite beads too. A portable handheld AM radio can be helpful finding sources of interference. Detune it and move it around to find the source.

Is it the Unit?

I once had a Jenson marine stereo and it malfunctioned. The factory didn't even take it back to fix because I did not have the receipt -they charged me $50 to fix a $100 stereo....that being said, Jenson leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But, is the unit at fault? If the CD motor is causing interference I really don't see anything externally you can do to correct that one. I assume your 12 volt supply is sufficient. I would call Jenson directly and ask them what they think. Also, I did away with all my on-board CDs and have all my music piped into my stereo RCA jacks from my MP3 player- great setup allowing me to carry 200 CDs in the palm of my hand.
