music to my ears

Hi all,
I have a question about music while sailing.
During one of my outings, doing about 4.5 kts in a 15 kts wind on the St-Lawrence, I started hearing a hum coming from the cabin. After a few seconds I realized that it must be vibrations on the backstay or the shrouds.
I thought that the tension on these was ok, but this makes me wonder. Of course I will have this tension checked.
Did any of you ever experiment this.
And before anyone coments, no,I do not believe it was mermaids...:)

The wind in the wires made a tattle-tail sound...

(From "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald".)

But the more likely culprit is the swing keel cable. With experience, this becomes an audible knotmeter.

Slack off the keel cable while it humming and you will immediatly know... most of us with a swing keel boat sail with the keel locked and the cable loose so as to eliminate the hum....
