I'd like to mount a fishfinder in my Hunter, and I'm wondering if anyone knows whether I can use the same transducer already mounted for the depth sounder that came with the boat...and still use both. Any ideas or experience? Thanks Jeff

transducer compatibility

You might be able to use the same transducer if the fish finder brand is the same as your current sounder. many transducers are manufactured by the same company and could be compatible across product lines. I changed readouts for my boat from a Raymarine St40 to an ST60 and the transducers were identical so i used the original. It seems tha tin Raymarine's case the only thing different would be computer box. Now for the question of the day: Why on earth do you want a fishfinder on a sailboat?

for obvious reasons...

...I gotta eat, Doug! And I love fish. I usually get a couple of bluefish or once in a while a striper and grill 'em up. I almost always pull a line behind my sailboat, and I thought everyone must, just for the fresh food if nothing else. Thanks for the info... Jeff

there are two frequencies

There are two frequencies for fishfinders and depth finders, and only two. If they are the same for both products, then it will work.

Jeff...

Because every one sits right in front of my depth finder I decided to install the black box sonar on my existing Garmin GPS chartplotter for depth and its also a fishfinder and thermometer and one transducer after I installed this set up the old one started to act up but its nice to have depth right in front of me above the moving chart, I never look at the fishfinder but like you maybe some day I'll throw a line out and see what happens, sushi for lunch anyone?

another reason to have one

My husband, an avid bass fisherman, is very content driving me around in our pontoon boat whenever I want him to - since we bought a GPS unit with graph. He happily motors along looking for/at fishing spots. I'm thinking of mounting a transducer and antenna for the same unit on my H30 so we can put the graph on there when we're out sailing. He will probably be much more willing to go out on light air days if I have something to keep him entertained :)
