Has anyone had reason to replace or repair the original mufler on this model hunter with the Renualt engine. Mine has rusted through again and the material is of poor enough quality that a weld just is prolonging the problem.
I've not had to replace the muffler yet, so I'm not much help on that end. For my own interest, how did it fail? Were you getting cooling water in the bilge or exhaust fumes? I think I have the original in my 1980 H27, but maybe the flushing w/ freshwater every trip has helped.
Mufler rusted out, result water in boat. Had it welded about 10 years ago and now its doing it again. Do note that boats US has a fiberglass muffler that I think I will use.
Had to replace mine a couple years ago. Went to MIDAS. Got a stainless steel with "lifetime guarantee". It didn't seem to bother them that it would be used on a boat in salt water. Think it cost $49.95. Seems to work fine.
This past fall I replaced my muffler with a marine fiberglass replacement muffler with the same overall dimensions as the original. It is available for $110 including shipping from "marineengineparts.com". Just tell the salesperson the intake and exhaust size is 2" and the length and diameter and they will fix you up. It is about an inch and a half shorter than the orginal but the hoses reach. Be sure to double clamp it at both ends. You will have to remove the 2"x2" on the flooring where the old muffler sat. I used a pry bar and a wood chisel to bust out this piece of wood. It gets in the way of feeding the replacement muffler into the old muffler position. This new fiberglass muffler has an up side and a down side so pay attention to the label. This should last at least 29 years and I am well pleased. Good luck and remember I love my hunter. P.S.
