I want to move the traviler from the cockpit to the top of the cabin just in front of the dodger on my 1979 27 hunter has anyone done this?

Why do you want to move the travler? Do you have a lot of traffic in to your salon while you are under way. I put a heavyduty snap shackel on the end of my main sheet so when i am docked or moored i can swing the main sheet and boom out out of the way and shackle it to my toerail. But if your going to move it foward you may have to add some purchase to your mainsheet, and you will have to move your bail.

Harken makes hardware
Harken makes good hardware. You will need three well separated bales on the boom to spread the much increased stress from moving the attachment to the center of the boom above the cabin. Check the archives for project descriptions that are there. We prefer our traveller where it was designed, at the aft end of the cockpit, just ahead of the rudder post. It works better, and is a minimal (but real) inconvenience. David Lady Lillie

Worried about an accidental jibe
I'm thinking about it too. On my 1976 H27, I have to lean forward when standing at the wheel for the sheet to clear my head. This may be a retrofit pedistal. Since I have the rudder post exposed, and the tiller and bracket, maybe I would be just as well to get rid of the wheel --- which has a rusted out baseplate below holding the cables -everyone with an old Edison should check this-- Randy
