moving traveller

I have a 1975 H30 and the previous owner moved the main traveller to the stern. I would like to install a bimini and I believe the main control lines to the traveller will be in the way. What I want to do is add a bimini that will extend from the back stay to the companionway. I was thinking of putting the main traveller on the cabin top rather than move it back to where it was originally, in front of the companion way in the cockpit. How might that effect control and sail shape? I don't race, but don't want to loose sail shape due to a loss in control of sheeting in the main. Is this just a bad idea? any help will be greatly appreciated. i hope this isn't too convoluted. Barry

Barry, this has been discussed many times here. Even recently I think. I am one of the few who have decided to stay with bridgedeck traveller, original on my H37C. My bimini extends almost two feet behind the backstay and almost up to the mainsheet. This provides more than adequate cover but, alas, I cannot connect it to the dodger.
