I am considering purchasing a Hunter 30_74-83. It has the travaler still in the cockpit. Most of the pictures of other Hunter 30_74-83 have them forward of the companionway cover were these other boats modified and can I do the same or was it an option? I would like to get it out of the way. Don't much about the Cherubini but love the look and feel when sailing. I am trading up from a Hunter 94' 26. I got BBF.

What year is the potential 30?

What year is the potential 30? I too have never seen an old H30 with the trveller in the cockpit. The only thing keeping you from relocating it would be if there were no hardpoints forward of the companion way. As long as there is a cored, mountable surface, then I think you should be fine. If you do move the traveller, it will save you the trouble or upgrading from the Starboard, center, Port mainsheet design that most of the old H30's came with. It puts a Port bias in the main, which I didn't like, so I had to install a more modern rig.

Hunter 30 1979

It is a 1979. In very good condition. I have been eyeing it for the last 3 years. It is in the slip next to the hunter 26 I had. The owner is moving up to a 37'. I am just trying to get ideas. I would also like to install a bimini. I the hot California sun in the delta it is a must for my wife and I wouldn't mind it also. I don't think I need a dodger but will look into that also. I think there are hard point over the slider cover. The Hunter 31 down the way has his traveler mounted there. It would change the sailing characteristic but not by much I would think.

Garhauer has the parts.

Carl: Garhauer has the parts that you need. You will need to bolt through the cabin headliner. You may need to fill the area with epoxy but it can be done. We should know something more this weekend about the H37C.

Totally agree on Garhauer

Steve D is correct. Garhauer makes really nice stuff. I put all Garhauer gear on my boat when I upgraded the mainsheet system. I looked at the other major brands, but I found the Garhauer stuff to be both nicer and less expensive. Here is a pic of my new mainsheet with the Garhauer gear: http://sailfish.exis.net/~sfsound/sailboat_page/boat_pics/newMainSheet.JPG

Traveller on cabin top

I have a 1978 H30 with a Harken traveller mounted on the cabin top, with each leg of the traveller mounted on the fixed cabin roof (deck) adjacent to each side of the sliding companionway cover. I understand from the previous owner that this was an add on. It works great! If you want, I can take some pictures & email to you, or you are welcome to take a look.

Hunter 30 Travles

I too have Hunter 30 in Rio Vista and have had done a lot of new rigging work this year. The travler in the cockpit is not all that much of a problem and I like the fact that the stress and control is at the end of the boom rather than forward where the mechanical advantage is not as great. What boat are you considering in purchasing? Don

HI Don

Hi Don, Are you at Hidden Harbor? I was I had the Hunter 26 in berth 13, the boat is MoonGlow slip 14. Are you at the end of the harbor next to the Cat boat. I guess I will leave everything as it is for now. I would like to add a bimini. The summers can be brutally hot and I am not a sun worshipper like Dave is. Carl hopefully future owner of S/V MoonGlow

Same as H37C.

It is my experience that all Cherubinis had the traveler in the cockpit until 1981. My 1979 H37C is on the bridgedeck in front of the companionway. If a big bimini and/or dodger that connect together is your goal then you have to move the traveler. If, like me, you want to control the leech and thus the shape of the main then it has to stay on the end of the boom. No vang will do that. Be sure to study the other installations and spread the load as much as possible. Even with 6:1 you will need a winch to trim.
