Traveler

The traveler on my 83 H30 came on the deck. It should be a pretty simple change. Before you mount it though, remove the cover to the sliding cabin top and re bed it. once you get the traveler moved up there, you will have to remove it to get the cover off . Take the extra time and do it now.

not so hot an idea

It is really not the best place to put it. YOu reduce the amount of leverage you have on the boom. shorter arm. So its much harder to trim the travler does not work as well the tension required makes everything run pretty stiff. Then there is the problem of mounting a secure travler and a strong enough area to mount it all without pulling it thur the cabin top. My friend has one on her 30 and has pulled the travler loose from the cabin top 3 times. and that is a factory install. it makes moving the travler impossible unless you loosen the main first.

Most have moved it.

Even Hunter moved the traveler in later years. Easy to do but not inexpensive. Garhauer is the way to go if you do it. But I am with Bob. I single-hand my H37C all of the time. I would not want mid-boom sheeting. You lose too much leverage and have to leave the wheel to trim. Is the mainsheet on the bridgedeck really that much of a problem? I improved the trimming with new Garhauer fiddle blocks with a cam cleat. I did away with the mainsheet going forward under the boom and back to a cabin roof winch. My mainsheet stays in the cockpit.
