anybody had experience moving a boat with a professional moving company? What is the average cost for a 30 foot 7000 pound boat for about 1000 miles? Who did you use? Any website that you guys know of that ranks them? If all else fails I could just sail her, but that would take a while and I don't have all that much vacation. Also, anybody know of a good trailer maker for such a boat or Know of a trailer for sale for such a boat. Any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Ken Matejka

Check email

I sent you an email about one that I know. I'm sure there are others but I trust this dealer. He is listed in the "Hunter Dealers" link of this website

Truck Transport- Well, I'll tell you...

I used Cam Transport, a company that I'm told does a fair amount of hauls for Hunter out here to the cal coast. I had my Vision 32 hauled from`San Diego to San Francisco, about 500 miles. I think he charged me $2400, but I know it was more than 1800 and less than 3000! Cam advertises in Latitude 38, the SF Bay sailing rag. (latitude38.com) don't think they have a web page but may. I needed a boatyard to haul the mast and haul the boat onto the trailer. Since I could not attend, and could only do a small part of the prep, the boatyard helped out there as well. That was some $$. I needed insurance to cover the move (needed a rider on my normal cruising grounds coverage) Then I needed a yard at my end to receive the boat, put it in the water and step the mast. I did this in June of 2002. The whole thing cost me like $4500 or so. There are a couple of brokers who will quite moves for you-you can find them on the internet. Often, the movers display at boat shows and offer "boat show pricing" check around. Good Luck!

Prepare your boat for the move.

Make sure you prepare your boat for the move. if you unsure what that entails, post another topic and you will get lots of info.

Recommendation

I can't make a spepcific recommendaion but I read some savy advice in that some so called transporters are actually brokers for shippers and that can create significant problems. Equipment not as stated, claims problems etc. Wish I could remember the where I read the article.

Hi Ken, a fellow skipper purchased his P42...

on the east coast and had it shipped to the west coast. He regrets that he was not able to be with the boat while it was prepared for shipping and the transport. During the transport his stick and SS arch were damaged. He ended up with a new stick, but after considerable grief. I think the move cost him around $8K to $10K. Terry

My Boat Arrived Yesterda

We moved a P42 from western Kentucky to Sandusky, Ohio, about 500 miles this week. I was not able to do any of the prep work so paid Lighthouse Landing, the marina in Kentucky, about $1000 for that. After loading the boat they determined that the pedestal was over 14 feet so they spent several more hours taking off the instruments and carefully packing them.(They did a great job.) We used American Boat Carriers from Florida. 800-828-3364 They move about half of the new Hunters. Their fee was $2250. Their driver, Karl, is an owner-operator and he treated the boat like it was his own. He graciously waited an extra day to unload due to a scheduling conflict that I had. The marina on the receiving end indicated they were not going to charge me for unloading it. We did that yesterday in 10 degree temperatures. Overall, a good experience.
