I never noticed that ramp in Evanston, either. I thought there was a ramp in Wilmette when I was young. Now it looks like it is blocked by a large building (Coast Guard?). I wonder if municipal ramps may be limited to residents or if there is a permitting process for the general public? There is a ramp at Tower Road in Winnetka, and it appears there is also a ramp in Highland Park. I always figured the Tower Road ramp ws for residents only. Great Lakes Naval Base also has a ramp (for Navy personnel only?).

Growing up in Glenview, we had access to the beach through friends who were residents in Wilmette and had passes. I sailed a Sunfish off the beach many times at Gillson Park in Wilmette with friends, and later I brought my Hobie Cat to Wilmette for an occasional regatta. I think you could get beach passes as a non-resident, but always figured the marina was for Wilmette residents only.

I think the only commercial marina available is way up in Waukegan, and then there is a State run marina in Winthop Harbor.

It would be interesting to hear from anybody who has experience using any of these ramps in Illinois on Lake Michigan. The shoreline has always been a very exclusive place in my experience.
