Moving diesel tank above decks in oday 26?

According to records I can find, it's been about a decade since the fuel tank in our boat has been pulled and cleaned. I change all the filters every year and haven't had any trouble. When I change the big filter on the tank I get a lot of blue in the collector. I always keep the tank full for winter storage. And I use about 2 gallons every season so most of the fuel remains unused. I'm thinking it's probably time for another tank removal and cleaning. My question is: have any of you moved your diesel tank to the locker located on the starboard side where the out board tank goes. It seems to me to have a tank you could clean and inspect would be better than one that gets little attention. Any thoughts? Any reason why this wouldn't be possible or advisable?

I considered that also. I don't know how tank was maintained prior to my purchase 4 yrs ago. I have had a couple water related fuel problems. Added Racor water separating filter, but continue to have fuel/engine running problems. Purchased a used Moeller 6 gal tank that looked like right dimensions, but proved to be too long. Weather too hot to do anything on boat, so am awaiting cooler weather to tackle problem. May go to fuel polishing vs taking tank out to clean (a bear to get out). Key is to find right size tank, volume & overall dimensions.
