Moving and setting up a C22

I just bought my first sailboat and I just encountered my first problem. The boat comes without a trailer, but I only have to move it a short distance. The boat has to be reworked and if I can get it home I will have lots of time to find a trailer. My brother has a regular 20’ trailer and I was wandering if the swing keel in the up position would be flush enough with the bottom of the boat to block the boat up on the trailer with Styrofoam. Would like some ideas on this and maybe how to set it up when I get it to the house.

Hauling a dead Cat

You need to support the keel when it is up and on the trailer. That way the wire does not have to take all the strain of suppoting the keel while the trailer bumps down the road.You also have to spread the load out on the hull over a fairly large area like about 10 to 12 square feet while towing. Otherwise when the boat bounces you are going to distort the hullFinally you need to tie down the bow and the stern so the boat does not slide off the trailer, which can happen at suprisingly low speeds when going around turns.If I were you, I would borrow a Catalina 22 trailer. Move the boat to my home. Remove it from the trailer so you can return the trailer. There are a few websites that describe how to remove the boat from the trailer in your driveway.Good luck and be safe.Jim

Tricky operation

The keel prodrudes about 14" from the bottom of the boat in the full up position. A roller trailer that could have the rollers raised up to about 16 or 18 inches may work. You will have to make sure there is no (no) wieght on the keel (else it will break something).The keel needs to rest on the crossbar while being towed, so the keel cable will be slack.Be safe, leave the supidity to the power boaters.Regards,Ted
