Mounting water container on H23

I recently purchased a neglected 1987 Hunter 23 and have been slowly fixing it up. I am baffled by the water reservoir that I think is original eguipment (though maybe not). The tank seems to only fit well sitting with handle and water outlet up, but there is no tube reaching to the bottom of the tank to draw water. Seems to me that either the outlet has to be at the bottom or something has to reach to the bottom. How is the original set up?I have been lurking in these forums for a couple of months now and have learned a ton. Thanks for all the unknown wisdom you have passed my way.

Water system Upgrade

I too upgraded the fresh water system on my H23 '87. I could not get the original type of water jug so I purchased a similar sized unit from WalMart. I modified the platform slightly to hold the different sized container. I also added a strap to hold the jug secure to the bulkhead.The jug sits upright.I purchased a set of quick connect fittings which allow me to disconnect the water line from the jug very quickly for refilling. I installed the fitting through the center plate in the filling spout of the jug. I also added a tube inside the jug to reach down to the bottom.I have also added a small electric pump & switch for pumping the water which is much more convenient.Let me know if you want the name of the manufacturer of the water fittings and I will try to dig it up.

my solution

I had the same situation with my '87 H23. Yes you do need to attach a tube that goes to the bottom of the jug and the spout goes on the top. I added a new "lever type" galley faucet from West Marine catalog. It draws very well from the jug and takes no electricity. Works fine!

Tell Me More About Electric Pump

I still have the original up-and-down hand pump on my '86 23. It's a real pain. I would like to add an electric pump. If you have done so, please tell me what you know. Thanks for the help.Dave Laing
