I'd like to mount a stereo on the cabin top of my ''84 ODay 28 directly above the nav table. Is there a space between the cabin top and the deck, or will I drill right through the deck when I drill the holes in the cabin top?

This seems to be the place where everyone wants to mount a stereo, including me! The previous owner had a mounting box and stereo above the nav station, but had the screws half backed out and I wondered why. I look at the deck and he had gone through on two of the four screws. I sealed it up on top and built a box instead. If you use short screws you will probably be ok. I have included some pics of the radio box I built.
