I'm looking for ideas on where to best mount a stereo and 2 speakers on my 23.5. I've delayed doing it because I can't come up with a good location for the stereo or the speakers. I think I'd like to mount the circular speakers in the cabin. Anyone have any ideas?

In our H22, I mounted the stereo beside the starboard teak bracket that angles from under the side deck to the hull. I made a teak bracket that attaches at a right angle and cut in a rectangular opening for the stereo sleeve to slide into (like a car's instrument panel). The weatherproof speakers are mounted in the cockpit sides. The sound from the backside of the speakers entertains those in the cabin.

Thanks for the suggestion. I thought about mounting the speakers under the cockpit seats, but didn't want to have to worry about disturbing the neighbors when tied up in the slip.

Cut into cabin storage lockers

The PO of Grasshopper mounted the stereo on the starboard side on the cabin roof just aft of the companionway step. He screwed a mounting bracket into the liner. The speakers are in the cabin, cut into the storage lockers just aft of the bulkhead to the v-berth. I still have 2 speaker outputs that could be used to pipe music into the cockpit, but like you I haven't come up with an adequate plan for speakers.

I bought speakers from Rock the boat. I used poly planer composit box speakers mounted under the stern rail seats. I ran the wires through the hull through holes I drilled behind the mounting plates for the stern rails (have to remove the stern rails to do this). then ran the wires up through the rails to the seats then out to the speakers. I made a small cage out of aluminum band material to protect the speakers. The inside speakers again (poly planar composit box)are mounted on the cabin roof just ahead of the v birth. stereo is mounted to the right of the step post at the head of the rear birth. AT the marina I keep the volume down, also how you aim the speakers helps prevent disturbing the neighbors. When all 4 are ballanced movies on a lil portable dvd player take on a whole lot better sound.

If I don't have to carve 5 inch holes in the side of a boat I'm not going to....
