Can anyone recommend a neat, unobtusive way of mounting the control head to one of the side tubes of an Edson pedestal? I have a GPS on the Edson center cast bracket behind the compass and don't have the option of the typical "Navpod" across the top "curved" tubes.

NavPod

I believe Navpod makes several different types of pods that will mount to the rails other than bridging them. These can be mounted off to the side, etc. I think they come in various sizes to hold single (or more) control heads. Fair winds! Tim

Shoot from the hip.

Patrick, Cut a mounting hole on the stbd side of the seat back just fwd of the aft cabin bulkhead (similar but opposite the engine controls). Run the cables through a hole in the aft cabin bulkhead cut just behind the control unit. If you are like me I sit on either the right or the left but hardly ever in the center. You will have a 50/50 chance of being able to get to the buttons without getting up. If those odds are not to your liking, buy a remote control for the port side. If you ever get around to a complete integrated Autohelm system, then you will go nuts trying to get all those cable into that pedistal. I speak from experience.

Hmm.. tight in that pedestal isn't it..

I"ve just got the pedestal off and I think you've got the right idea Fred. Either that or I'll maybe go with the Navico. I presume that just has one cord coming out of the unit to supply power and talk to other NMEAs.. I'd like to be able to set the tack angle though.
