mounting external gps antenna

has any one mounted a gps with external antenna? i have a bimini and am guying a chartplotter and am trying to fiure out what to do with the antenna

where to put it - your antenna that is

We bought a 356 and the dealer mounted the gps antenna on the port side underneath the sternrail seat HULL MOUNTED rather than on a rail. It is out of the way, and there is no degredation of the signal. (On our previous 326 it was mounted on a sternrail seat rail and unwary guests were always using it for a handhold and we constantly lost signal.

Binacle

I mounted mine on top of the Binacle (Edson) where I have power and it is out of the way. The Bimini does not effect the antenae at all and I bought a shelf from Edson that fits in the Bibacle to mount the GPS unit itself.

Out Back

I put mine on the aft rail of the bimini with a little cutout in the canvas tubing boot for the nylon mount. Ran the cable down the SS tubing. A little more trouble, but works great and out of the way.I tell everybody that it is my super secret miniature radar.
