Mounting A Radar Dislay on the Pedestal

I have been looking at places to mount a smaller radar display like the Furuno 1621 and the JRC 1500. Edson sells a pedestal mount for just such a purpose. The question I have is ...........with the display mounted that close to the compass....does it have any effect on the accuracy of the compass? The Edson mount is aluminum, but I have never had a radar before and I am not sure what was inside the display that could cause problems with the function of the compass. Anyone out there that can shed some light on this question.....sure appreciate it. Frank Bean S/V Blue Bird Mobile, Al

Twist the power leads to the radar and keep...

them away from the compass. I would also keep the signal-data cable away too. To the best of my knowledge there is nothing inside of the display that could affect the compass. A possible exeption could be a speaker for an alarm, but I don't know of any that would have one.

Should be fine

We installed our Furuno last year at the pedestal and have had no problems. I would guess that the Radar display is about 9 inches from the compass. Other electronics that include magnets (VHF radio etc..) will have a greater impact. Here is a photo for your review.
