Mounting a new VHF

On my 2000 340...I would like to replace my existing Ray 52 VHF, located at the pedestal with a new Raymarine Model 55 or 218.
I want to mount the new radio at the Nav Station inside the boat and mount the remote Hand Mic at the Pedestal.
Has anyone done anything similar and can I splice into the existing wire coming from the mast to run a new wire to the Nav Station? This would leave me with the existing wire still out on the pedestal to mount the Remote.

Pretty sure the remote does not need the mast antenna coax. The remote uses standard wires from the unit to the handset remote.
So to answer the question:
you need to re plumb the antenna coax to the new unit with no splices and run the handset remote wires to the pedestal.
