Finally adding a grill. I was wondering if anyone mounted one like this.
I bought a mount to put it on top of the stern rail but it's too hard to deal with when the bimini is up, so I thought I'd put it down low. The bracket will be able to swing around behind the boat out of the way when it's not in use (after I shorten it). Or the grill comes off easy for storage in the cabin. It has legs if I want to set it on a table top or what ever. The pics make it look bigger than it really is. It's the smallest one that WM sells.

I might move it to the other side away from the gasoline of the motor and maybe up a bit depending on working height.

If it is a b-b-q and not a gas grill and it catches fire will you be able to dump the hot coals in the water?

It's a gas grill. I've been pondering which side to go with. Eventually the gas tank will go to the laz. The other side has the boarding ladder, so I wouldn't be able to swing the grill aft.
The height is comfortable for use when sitting i the cockpit, and also I wouldn't want it too close to the bimini, in case of flare ups.
My gas tank sits in the motor well. (eventually will be in the laz) It is pretty close to the grill. Would it make sense to put a top on the motor well to shield the tank?
If the bimini is down, I would probably just mount it on top of the stern rail but in the Texas sun, it'll most likely be up in the summer.

I had stern-rail mounted charcoal and propane grills but found that there was often so much breeze that it took forever for the food to cook, even with a cover.

I now just have a cheap one standing in the cockpit behind the cabin, protected from the wind. I place it on an upside down interior stowage hatch cover to catch drippings.

If you have any little kids on the boat, you have to keep them away from the hot grill but otherwise it works great.

Does the tank mount on the end...

.... If so I would leave it there and store the bottle above deck say in a ABS or PVC tube and not down in the laz. I believe that the coast guard has regs on propane stored in a compartment.

Our cheap one is ....

...off the stern. Works well in the west, but we have hit pilings with it twice in Florida. It is handy to use standing on the laz and drippings go overboard,

nice grill!

I'd mount it on stb, due to gas fumes. and I doubt you'll be swimming the same time as you use the grill.

I have put 'stuff' on top of the motor well to quiet the engine down when motoring for long periods....

with that setup its not too hard to move it around.

I used mine early in the morning for coffee /breakfast, then at dusk/dark for supper time. normally the bimini is not needed then much... but mine is not in the way of my cooking.

I also try to avoid cooking for long times. chicken breasts vs a whole chicken, steaks vs a roast. etc... anything longer than 30 min is a pain.

(bottles only last about 1 hr on high)

try it on stb for a few trips, then make adjustments... based on actual use.

and yes store the bottles above deck! they can leak.

I have a Magma Newport grill, which looks similar to yours on my 26S. I mount it up high on the stern rail, starboard side, leaving the stern ladder still accessibe, and I can even leave my bimini up whilel using it. It sits on top of the rail. I use a quick release clamp, works great. In the pic it's labelled F&G. I don't see the need to use a big pipe like you have. When not in use I stow the grill in the laz. I'd recommend keeping it away from the motor.

Thanks guys.
Sumner,
I was beginning to think you were gone! I was referring to the gasoline tank for the motor. It will be moving to the laz when I get around to it. I do intend to make a PVC storage tube for the propane. Can you smell it if it leaks? Right now I have a can of it in the cabin, inside a Pelican box with my kitchen stuff. Haven't smelled anything yet.
Doug,
That's the same mount I bought. I can still mount it on the top of the rail if I want too. I just thought it would be nice to be able to sit down and cook. My bimini is pretty close to the rail. It's difficult to get out from under it back there.(maybe I need to lose some weight?) I pictured doing lunch at anchor on day trips. Bimini would be up for that. Mornings, or in the evening not so much.
Nothing that takes too long. steaks, chops, fajitas, burgers etc.

I stand on the laz hatch while tending the grill, but I'll admit it's a little tight getting out from under the bimini with the backstay in the way too. My bimini is on a 2ft slide track, so I can move it forward to give more clearance.

I believe you can smell it way before it reaches a condition where you are going to have an explosion in the cabin. Saying that we try not to ever have the propane tanks in the cabin overnight when we might not smell them, but have forgotten a couple times. If the cylinders do get hot enough, like in the sun sometimes, they will automatically release gas. From my experience this only seems to happen on a full bottle that gets hot.

We run the stove in the cabin everyday on the water, usually for coffee in the morning and then again for our main meal either at lunch or dinner depending on if we are moving. We always have a lot of ventilation when the stove is up and running even if it is cold outside.

I can still get out from under the back of the Bimini to tend the grill, but can see this becoming a problem as I get older and don't bend quite as well .

We got home about a week and a half ago. Still trying to get the boat put away and the house and yard back into order.

Nice grill, I'm sure you will enjoy it. Ruth wanted to buy a nice SS one, but the new boat came with one. It would of been cheaper though to of just bought the stove without the boat ;).

What, eliminate the opportunity for you to remodel the boat! Ha! ;)
-we all know you just really like to tinker with stuff... :D

Doe, if you can use the grill that low, try it out... but remember how hot the sides will be, and how long it will take to cool to touch. -don't want to hit that with your leg when swimming (getting in/out). (or worse!). (BTDT)

Sitting on the bench would be the best setup, since you'll have more light at night and more comfort when tending the grill. as long as you don't melt the cushions or people.

and you can smell the lp. I had the most problems with used tanks... sometimes the valve doesn't re-seal... I've had no problems with new ones, but I keep them in a soft cooler above deck. (fairly cool conditions)

Sum, when you have chance I'd sure like to hear what you would do again/not do again... on your Fla trip... and when are you coming back? ;)

We had a great time and not much we would of done different, well there was the incident breaking the solar panel  that doesn't need to be repeated. The biggest regret was not getting about 20 miles further down the keys past Marathon, but we hope to take care of that in the future. We really enjoyed from Marathon north on the gulf side.

I hope to work on the trip report as time permits. The longer I wait the more I'll forget and the more I get to make up :Liar:.

We hope to be back the end of Sept. or first of Oct.. We have lots of mods to work on here at home for the boat and other stuff that has to be done around the house. It will be hot then, but we probably have at least 2-3 weeks worth of work to do when we get back and we hope to take her out for at least a month or more. I promised Ruth that we would spend Christmas at home this year, so will have to head back after Thanksgiving.

Hope we get to meet on the next trip. Maybe you can plan a few vacation days. We would like to spend some days in Charlotte Harbor actually sailing the boat as there is a lot of deep water there and it is huge. Then we would like to go outside into the gulf for a bit. Next spring we hope to get more adventuresome with her,

Me too, I hopefully I'll be settled by then...

just watch the fronts and weather.

In the bahamas, much of it closes the entire month of Sept due to hurricane risks... November and december are normally great, as is late Feb - April.

-So Doe, what are you cooking on the grill? Venison ? :D

Absolutely!
Butterflied backstrap chops are one of my specialties!
Fresh caught speckled trout is on the menu too.

Y'all are making me want a bigger boat! Dang it, I aint even got this one rigged yet.

Our Magma is mounted in similar fashion. It has a quick release clamp so it can pivot completely out of the way. BTW the current Magma BBQs are not affected by wind (double walled). They cost a bit more but worth every penny.
