Jeff

I have a crack in my molding on my oday 28. Does anyone know where or if you can get replacement moulding to repair this problem? Also I am a new owner first boat and was wondering if you had any good suggestions for inexpensive dodgers. And if you just have any good advice about odays I would appreciate that as well. Thanks, Jeff

what moulding?

Jeff: I too have a 28 O'day. This web site will offer many good ideas for problems for your boat and any size O'day you currently have. Usually if you just ask it, it will be answered. As to your moulding problem; I guess we need to know what moulding are you speaking of? Where on the boat? Inexpensive dodger? Island Nautical has a self installed dodger that runs around a thousand bucks. Island Nautical has a pattern they work from to build/sew the dodger. It comes in a kit with good instructions and as self-installs go it is pretty easy and looks good too. So; it comes fully sewn together, is easy to install and runs a grand or so. I think there is a link on this web site to reach them. Good Luck, Mike S/B Pitterpat, Lake Huron

molding and dodger

Jeff..I assume you are talking about interior molding??? I would think that you could do as you would in any home and go to your local Home Depot and pick up some molding that is close and finish it yourself. As for a dodger---if your 28 is like mine, then you have the mainsheet traveller on the bridgedeck in front of the hatch. This leaves about 8 inches of clearance from the cockpit bulkhead to the mainsheet. Not alot of room for a dodger. (especially a dodger from a large manufacturer like West Marine/Sailnet/BoatUS) Plus these dodgers cost a ton of cash. Usually you would have to move the traveller to the cabintop above the main hatch ( not what I'd do) or have real short sides to the dodger. My suggestion in to look in a local boating magazine/newspaper/boat shop and see if there is anyone who does custom work. I found someone at my boat club who does dodger/bimini fabrication on the side. He is looking into fabricating a full dodger that I can use under motor but if under sail, I can back it off so that it is behind the mainsheet.

dodgers

Hi Jeff - As Mike mentioned, Island Nautical makes reasonably priced dodgers, and are availabe from the chandlery right here on ODO! Email Karisa in the chandlery for an individual quote at answers@odayowners.com Alternatively, a good reasonably priced local canvas guy in Seattle is Mike Straub from Freestyle Canvas. He can be reached by calling 206-769-4772. Hope this helps, Trevor Best, Trevor
