Hello all,

I recently noticed that my Volvo MD6A would stall out shortly after I throttled it up.

This weekend, after going out on an overnight trip, the motor wouldn't even start. Well, it would start but stall out after about 5-10 seconds. If I waited, I could get it to start again, but also with the quick stall out.Help!

Change your filter and check that your fuel is clean. I had to have
my tank pumped out and after that had no more problems.

I also had this problem. I opened the cockpit sole, started the engine and noticed that the fuel in running to the filter was white and full of foam. The engine stopped after 1-2 minutes and after waiting for a few minutes I could start again.

The problem was that the socket that connects the fuel hose to the tank was sucking in air. Problem was solved after fastening the bolt.

Thanks

A friend of mine here at work mentioned that he also had the fuel line leak problem with a gas engine.

I also have not changed the fuel filter.

I am not too familiar with diesels. In the engine manual there seems to be several fuel filtering stages mentioned.

How hard is it to change the filter? Which filter are you reffering to, or is it obvious once you get into the engine compartment?

Follow your fuel line from your fuel tank and it should enter (unless you
have an aftermarket fuel pump installed which will have electrical wires
running to it, in which case it is the next thing after this) a primary
filter which separates water and fuel. This is the first filter to change.
Next the lines run to a odd shapped piece of metal attached to your
engine with allen bolt machine screws that has a manually pump on it. This
is your second filter. Take the bolt off the top and with some love and
attention, pop the convex metal lid off. Running a small knife blade around
the grove on the the top helped us loosen ours - and we used the end of the
screw for leverage, but, be carefull or you will be buying a new primary
pump for $150 us. You will find a brass screen in there that should be
emptied out. Lastly, the rubber lines will run to a filter that is mounted
facing you directly if you are in the engine hole/pit/cramped space of hell
and diesel stink. This is the fine filter. It also will need to be
changed. You change the two filters mentioned above, you tap out the brass
mesh and can put it back in. Both filters are available in aftermarket
parts. Email me if you need info. Lastly, read your manual twice before
doing anything . . . :)

Hi Patrick,brbr

I changed the fuel filters and installed a new electric fuel pump. I can rev up the engine in idle, but in forward, I cant get the RPMs up very high and still can't go full speed. The exhaust seems dark when I throttle up too. brbr

As far as seeing foam in the fuel filter, It seems clean to me just by looking at it.Any Ideas?brbr

Thanks,br

I had a problem similar to yours in a previous boat. The pickup tube
was plugged on the end with gunk. Remove your tube and check it
carefully for any obstructions or pin holes. Also, could your timing
be off?
