I have a hunter 25'my old motor finally failed am i looking to get a yamaha or honda 4 stroke 9.9my old motor was a 20' shaft has anyone had experience with the 22" or 25" shaft or is longer better?
I have a 1977 Hunter 25. I have a Johnson 9.9 with 15hp carb long shaft on a transom spring hinge mount. Works absolutely terriffic! Lot's of leeway setting your motor angle and height.Ms. Toad's Wild RideSF Bay, California
Hi BobWe spoke before. My suggestion is a Honda 15hp with extra long shaft. We both sail in the same area and as you know the strong tidal currents at the inlets and especially waiting for a bridge openning can be a tense situation. This size motor gives plenty of power to maneuver. Also in our area you know the power boater could care less if your trying to hold your position. I bought my motor at Beesly Point Marina which is close to you and they have always been good to me.I hope this helps you Bill Coughlin sv Wind DancerP.S. I'm still looking foward to seeing out on the ocean
Evinrude makes some great 4 stroke engines in the 9.9 and 15 hp size.Great features and a lot of dealers for service and parts. They have a sailboat auxilary with high thrust, 12 A. electrical for battery charging, easy to tilt up and easy to hand start in case your battery is dead.I purchased a 9.9HP 2 years ago for my H260 and have been very happy with it.http://www.omc.com/engines/Evinrude.htm
Outboard Marine Corporation (the manufacturers of Evinrude and Johnson) has declared bankrupcy. Latest news that I know of is that the assets of the outboard motor division will be purchased by Bombardier. Currently they are shipping no product or parts.I owned a Johnson 9.9 4 stroke and my experience was not as good as the respondents here. Dunno...maybe I got a bad one.Just info to consider.
Bob, I have 1984 Honda on my 1995 H26. It is the 9.9 hp model and has a charging circiut for the battery. It is a 4 cycle so there is no mixing gas and oil and no blue cloud following you on a still day. It also is very quiet. I would love to have a sleek looking new 10hp Honda rather than my 16 year old buddy, but just can't open the wallet when this one runs totally trouble free. Ray
