I own a 1998 Catalina 250 and would like to know whether you would recommend a 9.9 HP or 15 Hp 4-stroke. Also, I have problems turning my present 9.8 HP because it hits the side of the transon and would like to know if anyone has a solution to this problem. Turning the motor when backing up is very helpfun when manuvering in tight quarters. Wayne

motor????

Check into the Catalina 25/250 website and this has been a long term discussion for the boys. I have a c250 and use a Honda 8 hp. It will push the 250 to hull speed at 1/2 throttle. Most all of the the c250 owners use a 8 hp, anything bigger is really overkill unless you have monster tides to deal with. As far as the motors where thre power head is too large to turn well, last week someone mentioned that they used a extended motor mount that sat about 6-8" aft of the well and allowed the notor to swivel well. its all in the 25/250 archives. Make sure and join as well because if you have a 250 you won't believe the tremendous source of info there.
