I am planning to purchase a 1976 O'Day 23. I have a Johnson SeaHorse 10hp outboard. Can I use it on the O'Day? I don't know how much it weighs, but the length of the shaft seems to be sufficient. ok if long shaft
10hp is more than enough for the 23. Just make sure it is a long shaft and not short shaft. Cavitation will occur if the prop doesn't stay under water. This happens frequently in following seas as well as when you hit a powerboat wake.

Outboard
I run a 2hp 4 stroke on my 23 with a long shaft. When the weather is up you will need an extra long shaft(25 inch) or it will cavitate even with a long shaft. By the way, 10hp is more than enough for any duty with this boat. Fair winds and God Bless.
